BodyFormula: Day 3

This morning was the first day back to my 5:30am workout.  Interestingly, my body must have been ready for this morning awakening before the proverbial chickens, as I was up around 5:15am.  As usual, in order to save precious minutes in the morning I went to bed in my gym clothes (they're washed, thank you very much).

I walked to Roberta's gym and ran through the routine she taught me the previous Sunday.  OK, maybe I didn't remember the whole thing, but I'm pretty sure I did 95% of the routine (judging by the muscle aches, I think I replicated the routine very accurately).

It was dark this morning as I embarked in on 1\4 mile walk to Roberta's gym.  Even my pooch, Onslow, was wondering what Daddy was doing going out for a morning walk without his trusty K9 companion?

Admittedly, the workout felt pretty good.  I enjoyed working up a sweat and, much to my suprise, I was just a little better with the jump rope (ok, not all that much better...).

I ended my workout un about 1hr.

How am I feeling: tired, muscles are sore

Body Formula: Day 1

Last night I saw a dear friend of mine who is a personal trainer, and asked her to assist me on my quest for better physical and mental health.  I asked her to train me.  Now I am one of those former gym rats who invented his own "routine" and was happy with the results.  However, that was some time ago and I have since aged a little.

Well, yesterday I was working out at the gym doing my same tried and true "routine" when I thought to myself; "... this is not going to work".  For some reason I instinctually knew that I was going to need the assistance of a professional in order to help me reach my goals:
- Better physical appearence through "body sculpting"
- Improve flexibility
- Improve my cardio stamina

Oh did I also mention that I want to shed the 20 lbs I put on over the past couple of years?

Anyway, my aforementioned personal trainer friend, Roberta Bergman, was very enthusiastic to assist me in my better health quest.  See, Roberta is the owner of BodyFormula (http://www.bodyformula.com).  Roberta has been in the personal fitness business for more than 20 years.  She has trained the famous and not so famous, and now she is training a slob like me.

While I have known Roberta for the past 10 years or so, I have never thought to seek out her expertise in the physical conditioning arena.  I may have been too shy, or perhaps thought that there is nothing she can teach me that I didn't already know.  Well, I have to say that all went out the window today as we completed our first training session just about an hour ago.

I digress to my conversation with Roberta last night.  Roberta told me to meet her at her gym at 4pm (today) to have a workout based on my requirements and to later talk about nutrition.  I have to admit I was very enthusiastic about my first session with Roberta because I was really looking forward to a vigorous session.

Roberta did not disappoint.  She started me on an alternating series of jump rope (ok, I'm a 6'1" 245lbs guy who the closest he ever got to a jump rope was watching his sisters jump rope back in the day), and step exercises.  By the time we reached 10 mins in, I was sweating like turkey on Thanksgiving day.

We then moved onto high rep, light weght training followed by abs and stretching.  The entire workout took about 1 hour.  But I must say, I truly didn't think I was going to make it.  Roberta was patient and encouraged me every step of the way.

After the workout, we sat and talked about my eating habits.  I was suprised to learn that my eating habits are not as bad as I thought.  Roberta recommended a few small changes shifting the heavier meals to earlier in the day.

I will be keeping a journal of my "progress" on my blog.  Please feel free to comment.  I will also post:
- before, during and after pictures
- Eating diary
- Workout summary

I invite you to comment.

Bon chance....

Great Dashboarding

I have used Strategy Companion's (http://www.strategycompanion.com) Analyzer 2007 for a while now and like the tool very much.  Analyzer 2007 is a BI analytics tool that reads a cube in SQL Analysis services and create analytics, dashboards and pivot tables for output.

What I didn't know that tool had the capability of doing is to create inter active maps based on geography.  I learned this yesterday when I was on the phone with S.C. technical support (this was to resolve an installation on my Windows Vista laptop running IIS 7, more on that later).

During a remote desktop session with the S.C. engineer I noticed an icon on his desktop "geography map".  I ask what this was, and he showed me this really slick map created in the latest version of Analyzer 2007.  What I saw was a map of the US with sales amounts hovering over each state.  When a state is clicked upon, the pivot table shows the sales for that state by city.

I can't wait to include this feature for my demos.
